    1. I thought this was a wonderful book! I grew up in the South and I can relate to so many of the stories and situations mentioned in this book. The stories came alive and I felt like I was actually there experiencing what Jan experienced!

    2. What a rewarding read! This young adult mystery is also a grown-up meditation on history, justice, and friendship. Lively and original prose, especially evident in the dialect speech of these southern characters. Highly recommended for classroom use as well!

    3. An exceptionally well-written and timely book that is appropriate for middle school readers and especially students under the guidance of a teacher. It is a gentle introduction to some of the racism in the South during the 1960s and would be good seed material for teachers.

    4. This is such a great and well-written book! Not only was it a fun and entertaining mystery, but it also tackled so many issues of the time that are very relevant today. I would encourage any teacher or parent looking to provide their youth with a lesson on fairness and justice to use this book.
